The Soldiers Point Ballroom and New Vogue Dance Group marked Jacobus Vreeswyk’s 90th birthday on Wednesday, September 20.
Members of the group, which has been running for 22 years, ditched their dancing shoes and instead kicked back at Nelson Bay Bowling Club to celebrate.
Mr Vreeswyk was joined at the Nelson Bay club by his dancing partner of 10 years, former president of the group Mary Coombes.
The Soldiers Point Ballroom and New Vogue Dance Group meets each Thursday from 7.30pm at Soldiers Point Bowling Club.
After dancing up an appetite, members enjoy some dinner together.
New members are welcome to join the group, especially men as the group is “short on gentlemen” Ms Coombes said.
The group’s annual ball, held in conjunction with Nelson Bay Rock 'n' Roll Club, is fast approaching.
The ball will be held at Soldiers Point Bowling Club from 6pm on October 7. Ms Coombes said it will be a “royal ball” complete with tiaras.
The two dancing groups alternate years in hosting the ball. The ball is anticipated to be fun-filled night featuring both ballroom and rock ‘n’ roll dancing. The cost to attend is $30.
Soldiers Point Ballroom and New Vogue Dance Group was formed in 1995 by a group of friends.
