The photo above is but one of clues retrieved from the park’s history pages as Raymond Terrace prepares to celebrate the Illuminate festival on November 18.
Found in the Newcastle Region Library the photo was reportedly taken on a long-since demolished pavilion, at the 'Officers and Apprentices picnic' in 1896.
“We don’t know who the people are or what the picnic was about,” Illuminate project coordinator Penny Amberg, from Port Stephens Council, said.
“A lot has happened in the park over the years. The photo shows people were active at the park all those years ago.
“We’re hoping people might have more photos under their bed.”
