As part of Surf Life Saving NSW’s open day the Fingal Bay club is inviting the community to join them on October 15.
“The club open day is our first beach nipper day for the season,” Angela Freeman, secretary of the Fingal club, said.
“Members of the community can come down and watch the nipper program in action.
“We will also have members available to do a tour of the club facilities between 10am and 12pm.”
The Birubi Beach club held an open day in September.
On Sunday, however, they will be taking a second round of registrations for its nippers program.
Nippers is for children aged 6 to 13.
Registrations are to be completed online before meeting at Tomaree Aquatic Centre on Sunday. The kick off time is 8.30am.
Children will be required to pass a swim test, but there will also be fun games and activities, Helen Ratcliffe, president of the Birubi Point club, said.
Further information and registration can be completed on Birubi Point Surf Life Saving Club’s website.
The Birubi club is also looking for cadets, children aged 13 to 17, to join. Training courses are already underway.
Surf Life Saving NSW CEO Steven Pearce said the annual open day gave community members a chance to see behind the flags, and encourage interested people in joining the volunteer organisation.
More than 74,000 people registered with a Surf Life Saving Club during the 2016/17 season, he said.
“One of the great things about joining a surf club is that you walk into a ready-made group of friends. It’s also a great way to spend some family time together, while doing something good for the community, and I strongly encourage you to get to your local beach this Sunday to come in and say hello,” Mr Pearce said.
