Port Stephens Council held a launch event at Boomerang Park on August 31 that included a lantern making how-to.
Organisers have also been eager for people to check under the bed for historical photos like these.
In the planning for the event more history has come to light including details about Muree quarry which produced the world’s best freestone in 1893.
A fireworks display will cap off the evening.
