The skate park and reserve works, which include a playground and hit wall for racket sports, were part of a $130,000 project.

“We wanted to make the whole area more user friendly for families.”
Port Stephens mayor Ryan Palmer opened the facility with Cr Jaimie Abbott who represented the Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter Scot MacDonald MLC, who was unable to attend, speaking about the significance of the facilities in the video, above.

The $130,000 skate park and reserve works at Benjamin Lee Drive were funded by the Federal Government's Community Development Grant, the NSW Government's Social Housing Community Improvement Fund, which each contributed $50,000, along with $30,000 from Port Stephens Council.
In keeping with the community theme Lakeside resident artist Mitch Hogan applied a mural to the rear side of the hit wall.
Mr Hogan said he was motivated to create a mural that inspired a sense of cohesion among the facility’s users.
“I believe art should create new thoughts and dream is one of the first important things you can do in life,” he said.
“I want you [children] to dream and be inspired, to grow up as responsible adults and women.”
