It is all thanks to two new Sandcruiser Beach Wheelchairs which have been delivered to the Port Stephens Beachside Holiday Parks. The state-of-the art wheelchairs are available for loan from Halifax and Fingal Bay Holiday Parks, at no cost to the general public and park visitors alike.
The pneumatic tyres make navigating grass and sand easy and mean the sandcruisers can be used on all terrain and allow people with a disability access from their vehicles to the water's edge.
"We want everyone to be able to experience what our beautiful area has to offer," Port Stephens Beachside Holiday Parks business development manager Rebecca Smith says.
One sandcruiser chair was recently loaned by Halifax Holiday Park to a family staying in Nelson Bay during the Easter school holiday period.
"To see the face of the little 11-year-old boy light up when I was assisting his father to put the chair in the back of his van was truly rewarding," Halifax Holiday Park manager Robert Robinson said.
