While the votes were still being counted, political analysts were predicting that the Liberal Party’s 14.7 per cent margin was not enough to keep Ms Washington from becoming the Port’s newest member.
At Lakeside Tavern on Saturday night, Ms Washington gave what could only be described as a victory speech.
She thanked former MP Bob Martin and her long time campaigner Giacomo Arnott for being with her from the start.
As at 8.30pm, Ms Washington held a 54.81 per cent lead over the Liberal’s Ken Jordan 45.19 per cent.
More to come.
