Margaret Wilkinson, secretary of the Corlette Parks Reserves and Landcare Group, believes the council needs to act now before permanent damage takes place.

"It would seem that council is taking its time in organising tenders to actually get a management plan and study completed," Mrs Wilkinson said.

"I was under the impression that plans had been under way at least two years ago. Meanwhile Conroy Park erodes away.

"The sandbag work council undertook some time ago, though helpful as an interim measure, was not really completed and now the tide washes in behind the bags and is seriously eroding the bank."

Mrs Wilkinson said that an extremely large eucalyptus tree was on the brink of collapse, with half of its roots fully exposed to the elements.

Councillors agreed at their last meeting to appoint Whitehead & Associates to complete the Sandy Point/Conroy Park foreshore erosion and drainage plan.

Councillor Sally Dover said the erosion was accelerating and called for immediate action. "It looks as if council is not doing anything about it."

Facilities and Services group manager Jason Linnane said that a grant of $173,500 would be used to conduct the concept study, which was expected to take at least six months, in addition to applying short-term works along the foreshore.
