The Williamtown-Salt Ash RFS brigade applied for a new GPS for the lower Hunter group captain, Les Bowden AFSM, through the NSW RFS Association 2015 grant scheme.
“He [Mr Bowden] needs a good GPS for mapping fire edges, calculating fire areas and putting in locations of water sources,” said David Thomas, captain of Williamtown-Salt Ash RFS.
“We applied for it [GPS] for him and we’re happy we’ve been able to deliver.”
Karuah RFS received an electric hose rewind system through the grant scheme.
“The electric rewind system will enable us to move quickly between locations and provide a great deal of help to those brigade members who find it difficult to wind the hose,” said Tahnee Cook from Karuah RFS.
“We’ve also been fortunate to receive a gazebo/sun shade for community engagement.’’
RFS Association acting president Ken Middleton said the grant scheme was a valuable service as it bridged fundraising gaps for brigades in need of new equipment.
“Many of these brigades would not be able to fund raise to gain this equipment because of their locations within NSW,” Mr Middleton said.
