And according to Maestre, one of those pies comes from Nelson Bay.
Friday’s episode of lifestyle television show The Living Room will feature the segment where Maestre travels to each of the five places in Australia where he deems the best meat pie lives.
Anyone who catches the show on Friday will see Maestre enjoy a beef stroganoff pie at Red Neds Gourmet Pies in Nelson Bay.
Red Neds Gourmet Pies was established in 1997 by master pie maker Barry Kelly. Mr Kelly said the secret to his beef stroganoff pie is the mustard he adds.
Maestre’s other meat pie picks are: manderin duck from Harrow and Eton (Victoria), curried scallop from St Helens Bakery (Tasmania), beef and stilton from Tuck Shop Cafe, Pie-House and Delicatessen (Western Australia) and the chicken, avocado and brie pie from Upper Crust (Sydney).
The Living Room airs from 7.30pm on TEN.
