Think again.
“It nearly didn’t happen,” Raymond Terrace Junior Rugby League president Jamie Douglas said.
“It was a bit of a struggle for a while there.”
Douglas said the rumour mill had been in overdrive and wanted to show the knockers his club had the numbers.
The team, he said, would compete in D-grade.
“After the 17s, we want our boys to have a team they can run on with,” Douglas said.
“It’s important to have that seniors team here.”
Alan Tarrant, a club faithful, has pulled many of the loose threads together in recent weeks.
“The rumour has been going around… we’ve not only got the numbers, I think we’ll surprise a few teams,” he said.
A core group of six players, including Harry Nott, mustered the numbers to field a team.
“It all just happened through a group [Facebook] chat and talking to people at the pub,” he said.
