Other side to story
I write in reference to the article ‘Club still open for offers’ (Examiner, July 13).

I refer to the comment made from Mr Brett Woods, President Fingal Bay Surf Club, regarding the cessation of our sub-lease for the restaurant facility at the Fingal Surf Club.
As a figurehead and representative of a community body, it would be most prudent to ensure that facts are correct before statements are made on a public forum.
Quote, unquote… “They were given several opportunities to stay.”
My, my what a difference 12 months makes to somebody’s memory.
It is obvious you were never brought up to speed with our opportunities. The offer on the table was one paltry month, so the surf club could sort out its affairs. This, we promptly rejected. Don’t tell all and sundry about our fictitious opportunities, tell the 21 staff that had nowhere to go about our opportunities.
Thin ice Mr Woods.

Not all care alike
Many cannot but admire the bouquets given to Harbourside Retirement Village for their standard of care for the aged, as described by Frank Ward OAM and MJ Thomas (Letters, Examiner July 13 and 6).
These two gentlemen were able to present their cases eloquently.
One must remember that there are many who are unable to speak for themselves about the circumstances that they have unfortunately entered or been put into. The recent ABC documentary on aged care had at least put voice to the unheard and helped to put light into some dark corners on earth which are not Haven.

Choir sings on
As past Musical Director and inaugural President, on my retirement from conducting the SeaSide Singers Community Choir, I wish to thank the people of Port Stephens for their love, co-operation and support you have shown me personally and the whole choir since our inception in 2009.
At our various concerts you have faithfully turned up to hear our latest jazz numbers, classical opera, peace days songs and Aussie favourites.
As founder, with my husband Ron and some dedicated music lovers and singers, we are grateful that you have stayed with us, as audiences and as businesses or clubs booking us for gigs. Thanks also to the people and organisations that have helped keep this choir afloat. Thank you for all your good wishes. I have had a ball and I hope to see you at our next event with our new conductor, Ellery at the Soldiers Point Bowling Club on July 29.

Thanks, fun police
Well the school holidays came and he children were all looking for some fun, as kids do.
The weather was fine with the sun out it made perfect sense.
The perfect tree in the reserve between Benito and Government roads was just waiting to meet some kids, with a little skill a rope was cast over a very large branch of a gum tree making a great fun swing.
With the slope of the grass falling away from the road it was easy to launch yourself out across the grass.
Screams of enjoyment was heard along with a meeting place for the kids chattering away be they either visiting or living close by.
Down came the fun police 1,2,3 to tell the kids they can’t have a rope swing here and the council has said the rope must be taken down.
So now it’s gone and the children have returned to play their iPads inside instead of being outside in the sun meeting people, laughing and generally enjoying the school holidays. Good one, fun police.
