A woman is in a serious but stable condition after being struck by a car, allegedly driven by a high-range drink driver more than three times the legal limit, in Nelson Bay during the early hours of Sunday morning.

According to police, the woman was walking along Magnus Street just after midnight on July 16 when she was struck by a Mazda utility. The collision is understood to have happened between the shopping strip and residential area.
The Mazda has then crossed the street and struck the front of a home.
Paramedics treated her at the scene before taking her to John Hunter Hospital with serious injuries.
The driver of the Mazda, a 43-year-old man, suffered minor injuries. He was breath tested at the scene allegedly returning a positive reading.
He was then arrested and taken to Nelson Bay Police Station where he returned an alleged reading of more than three times the legal limit 0.170.
The Nelson Bay man was charged with high-range drink driving and cause bodily harm by misconduct.
He is due to appear at Raymond Terrace Local Court on Monday 28 August 2018.
