In the countdown to the September 9 council election, organisers have arranged for mayoral and East ward candidates to introduce themselves to voters.
Not only will candidates provide a brief statement of their priorities for the coming term of council but they will answer questions on matters of concern to residents and ratepayers.
”This is a public forum and residents should take this opportunity to meet the candidates in the forthcoming council election,” TRRA vice president Dick Appleby said.
“It is voters’ responsibility to understand the issues facing our council and to carefully choose the candidates that will best represent their interests, and provide consultation, transparency and accountability in the new council.
“This is an opportunity to put that issue that you are really concerned about, directly to the candidates.”
Mayoral candidates Ryan Palmer, Des Maslen and Cr Sally Dover are said to have already registered their attendance along with East ward hopefuls Cr John Nell and Labor candidate David Simm.
The forum’s format will follow that of past forums TRRA has convened for council, state and federal elections, which have been well attended.
The forum will start 7pm on Tuesday, August 15 in the auditorium at the Nelson Bay Bowling Club.
TRRA is arranging for the proceedings to be recorded on video and later posted on YouTube.
All members of the public are invited.
More information is available on the website at trra.com.au.
The Tilligerry ALP Branch will host a candidates forum at the Tilligerry Habitat on August 14.
It will be open to all mayoral and central ward candidates regardless of political affiliation.
The forum, which will include a Q&A session, will start 7pm.
