The Medowie mother of two took out the Social Impact Award, announced at a gala dinner in Sydney last month.
“It was absolutely incredible to receive such a prestigious award,” Ms Oakhill said.
“I truly believe that Helpful Love has the potential to change lives and make our world a better place, and it was such a heart-warming moment to receive national recognition for a movement I am so deeply passionate about.”
Helpful Love was created two years ago when Ms Oakhill’s friend lost her 3 year old daughter.
“Everyone sent flowers because that’s usually just what we do,” Ms Oakhill said.
“The gesture was certainly appreciated but it made me think, surely there is a better way we can help people going through the worst time in their life.”
Ms Oakhill searched for a one-stop-shop of helpful, useful gift alternatives but could not find one.
So, she created one herself.
Helpful Love is a community directory of handpicked vendors who offer alternative approaches to gift giving, delivering services with attention and care.
In tough times, it is often hard to know how to provide support.
While sending flowers is a nice gesture, sometimes more practical support is needed – someone to take care of the laundry, clean the house, a comforting remedial massage or nourishing meals prepared and delivered to the door.
Helpful Love offers these practical gifts and services to assist in times of need.
Peace Mitchell, cofounder of AusMumpreneur, said the awards were about recognising mothers like Ms Oakhill who are “achieving outstanding business success while balancing motherhood”.
