Talented local ladies cricketer Jemma Astley is waiting to hear whether she has been selected to tour England in March with the Australian indigenous ladies cricket team.

Jemma recently went into a nine day camp with the Australian team, which included a game against the Queensland state team.

Jemma continues to rack up the kilometres in her chosen sport, playing in the Sydney competition on Sunday.

At Mark Taylor Oval, Jemma scored 40 runs for northern districts in their narrow loss to Gordon.

The gifted all-rounder continues to impress.

Father Craig, a stalwart of Nelson Bay Cricket Club, is helping with her coaching and development.

Fingal Bay Rugby League Club’s successful season was celebrated at their presentation night on Saturday, October 7.

At the Newcastle Hunter Rugby League awards held the same night, Bomboras coach Bo Earl was voted coach of the year across the entire competition.

Bo did a magnificent job as player-coach for the Bomboras, taking them from B-grade premiers to A-grade premiers, building a tight-knit group that wanted to play for one another and showed commitment and tenacity across the season.

Award winners for the Bomboras presentation night were: Isaac Upton (best back), Cameron Scully (best and fairest) and Ash Graf (coaches’ award).

Ben Schnieder collected the players’ player award and, after a big season, best forward.
