Last year the jolly man in red arrived by helicopter.
This year, he will arrive at Raymond Terrace MarketPlace in the Batmobile, flanked by some of the area’s sleekest classic cars.
Colleen Mulholland-Ruiz, the marketing and centre manager of Raymond Terrace MarketPlace, said she could think of no better way to mark Santa’s arrival on November 12 than by also holding a Christmas show and shine.
Money raised from the event, to also include community displays, performances and children’s activities, will go to the Leukaemia Foundation.
“We have worked with the Leukaemia Foundation for many years,” Ms Mulholland-Ruiz said.
“We were looking at a new way to fund-raise this year and thought, because Santa was arriving in the Batmobile, why not have a car show?”
The Raymond Terrace Christmas Show ‘N Shine is being coordinated by Mick Everitt from M&M Paint and Panel.
He has contacted car clubs from Port Stephens, such as the Ferodale Historic Motor Custom Club, and around the Hunter to show their cars in the event.
“We’ll have a good range of cars, but are looking for more,” he said.
Car clubs and classic car owners are being invited to register to show their car in the Raymond Terrace Christmas Show ‘N Shine.
Registration forms are available from MarketPlace.
The cost to show a car is $10. All entry fees will be donated to the Leukaemia Foundation. Entries close on November 1.
In addition to the car show, the event will include displays by Port police, NSW Fire and Rescue, SES, Lions, Raymond Terrace Men’s Shed and Port Stephens Council.
There will be stage performances by Irrawang and Hunter River high, Raymond Terrace and Irrawang public schools.
Students from Dance ‘n Dazzle Dance Studio and All Shook Up Dancing School will also perform.
Santa will arrive at 10.30am amongst a parade of friends including Despicable Me 3 characters Dave, Mel and Gru, Bumblebee and Frosty the Snowman.
The November 12 MarketPlace Christmas event will run 10am to 2pm.
