Support for assisted dying
The people have spoken supporting the same sex marriage bill yet Australians are being excluded from making a similar decision on assisted dying.

Voters should request how their local NSW politician voted on the recent bill. Are they representing their political party, their Christian faith?
Because polling shows up to 85 per cent of people support a controlled process of assisted dying. Elections are due, make sure candidates support people not parties.

MP should be here
Recently more bad news was thrust upon the residents of the Williamtown and Salt Ash area.
It turns out that now even more of them are subjected to the foam drama. Some notable efforts have been made to mitigate the effects of the foam issues, like the installation of water mains. But it isn’t enough. People have been living with this for too long.
So it surprises me, and should outrage the good folk of Paterson electorate that their new member Meryl Swanson, a back-bencher with no job responsibility other than her electorate was on a trip overseas with Senators where she met the Dalai Lama at the same time as this latest foam revelation. This follows other trips overseas and voting down a compensation package for residents.
The Paterson MP needs to explain why she is so intent on being away from her electorate for no benefit and who is footing the bill.

Confusion at crossroads
We have recently returned from an extended trip around Australia in our caravan and have been very surprised about the road layout near the Shell garage at Salamander shopping centre, Salamander Way.
So why has the council come up with what seems to be such a crazy non-standard confusing road layout?
Why is it so difficult these days to give motorists a standard road junction like a roundabout there? Then hopefully motorists would understand who has right of way. Did we really pay someone to design such a confusing junction?
I wonder how many accidents there will be there when the tourists try to negotiate it?
I am sure the state government has a set of standard blueprints for road layouts? And I bet this one is nowhere to be found.
It is annoying to see taxpayers’ money spent as I am sure it will be changed soon, at least I live in hope.

Illuminate lights up park
Many thanks to all concerned for the wonderful effort put into Illuminate.
It was an amazing community event that showcased our beautiful Boomerang Park.
The fireworks were spectacular and it was so kind of the weather to hold till they had finished.
One thing I would like to see next year is a designated drop off area for the elderly, who find walking from where car parks are available, to the event in the park challenging.

Tree a reflection of past
I read with interest the article about the Norfolk pine at Raymond Terrace being the tallest in the National Register of Big Trees.
I feel there is one taller than that one. It is growing on land to the right hand side as you drive along Tourle St coming into the intersection with Industrial Drive.
I remember that tree from way back when I was a child living in Groongal St Mayfield West. It grew alongside the Catholic boys' orphanage many years ago. (The orphanage was demolished long ago.)
Whenever I drive into Newcastle I look at that tree remembering my childhood and hope against hope that it never gets chopped down.
