Ten-year-old year old Eden Hasson received the Tsunami Wave Warrior Award.
The talented Riley Cruise picked up the under 14 and the Burton Toyota Encouragement Award with a beaut A.S.L surf board trophy.
Jamie Doran overcame a painful neck injury to take out the Masters Award. The Open Men’s trophy went to Nelson Corner and the Open Ladies award was won by Bec Bellamy, 19 years after she last won the event.
The Bay Area Board Riders continue to raise their profile after the Women’s Surf League 6000 qualifying event was held at Birubi Beach recently.
Makos mixed
Nelson Bay Cricket Club had mixed results last weekend with both A grade teams losing.
The Makos went down to Cricketers Arms and the turtles fell to Merewether.
The B2s had crushing victory over the United Sports Slashers at Don Waring Oval with classy opener Chris Scott compiling a well worked 107 runs.
Peter Fitzpatrick (38) and Steve Fallin (26) made solid runs. The bowlers were also on their game with Matt James taking 3-29 and Alex Ward 2-37.
The Nelson Bay club had three representatives – Darren Mottram, Hamish Bartlett, and Sam Triffitt – in the Newcastle rep team to play Cessnock.
