Competitors from as far afield as Pambula, Merimbula, Murwillumbah, Dubbo, Orange, Wagga, Temora and the ACT will compete across three divisions in the 18-hole final at Horizons Golf Resort.
Golf NSW events manager Olivia Wilson said the medal is an extremely popular event on the golfing calendar.
“Over 7000 ladies from 200 clubs began the medal competition back in January, with competition running until October,” she said.
“Each year the competition and number of participants continues to grow.”
Port Stephens Mayor Ryan Palmer said the council is proud to sponsor the event.
“I’m excited to welcome competitors to Port Stephens,” he said.
“Events like these bring competitors from across the state to our beautiful region to compete at our world-class facilities and while they are here, soak up all that Port Stephens has to offer.”
Massey Park Golf Club’s Sharon Scarr, who won the Medal final at Stonecutters Ridge Golf Club last year, is back to defend her crown after qualifying once again this year.
“I was surprised to win last year,” she said.
“It was a 40-degree day, so yes, I didn’t expect to win last year at all. I’m hoping to play well, I’m playing off three shots less this year so it might be a bit tougher, but I’m certainly going to try.
“Hopefully, I can do myself and the club proud.”
Ms Scarr said she was looking forward to visiting Port Stephens and is keen to take in the picturesque destination.
She visited Nelson Bay a couple of years ago and expects to get in a bit of sight-seeing around the area after the competition wrapped up.
“I’ve heard Port Stephens is a wonderful course. I haven’t played there before so it should be interesting, but I manage my way around the course pretty well,” she said
“We are going have a bit of a look around the area after the game and possibly take a group up from Massey Park up to have our weekend away there.”
