Fifteen businesses have contributed $36,000 collectively to the Port Stephens Mayoral Academic Scholarship pool – the largest amount ever received.
Valued at $2000 each, the scholarships provide financial assistance to Port Stephens residents who are starting university or TAFE in 2018.
This means that there are 18 scholarships available for Port students in 2018.
Port Stephens Mayor Ryan Palmer said he is immensely proud to have such an array of businesses supporting the initiative.
“It’s fantastic to see that the Mayoral Academic Scholarship Program continues to grow each year,” he said. “It shows that Port Stephens businesses are keen to develop and invest in local young people and see them succeed.”
The 15 businesses that contributed to the 2018 academic scholarship program include:
- Ampcontrol
- Destination Port Stephens
- Hunter Land
- Hunter Readymixed Concrete
- Macka’s Sand and Soil Supplies
- McDonald Jones Homes
- Newcastle Airport
- Raymond Terrace Bowling Club
- Salamander Bay Recycling
- Soldiers Point Bowling Club
- Suez Recycling and Recovery
- Telstra Shop - Salamander Bay
- Tomago Aluminium
- Weathertex and;
- The Wests Group Australia
Cr Palmer thanked the businesses who support the scholarship initiative year-on-year, and those that have joined for 2018.
“As a community, let’s keep supporting our students and help them to achieve their educational and career goals,” he said.
Applications for the 2018 Port Stephens Mayoral Academic Scholarship open today, December 18, and close 5pm on January 21, 2018.
Application forms are available from the Port Stephens Council website, from the council's administration building, Raymond Terrace Library or Tomaree library in Salamander Bay.
