The five piece, featuring some well seasoned musicians, formed in 2014 and have been playing weddings, bah mitzvahs and anything else that heads their way ever since.
The band, made up with drummer John Lock, vocalists Lydia Wardley and Kristine Avery, plus Jerome McClintock on bass and Peter Bates on guitar, play what they call “original covers”.
In the hands of funKtus a well worn tune will be deconstructed and reconstructed with the band’s own vibe.
One of its covers is Tracy Chapman’s Give Me One Reason. The song is blended with elements from Stevie Ray Vaughan’s Cold Shot.
“It’s two songs we have smashed together,” Lock said. “It’s the words of Tracy Champan but the music of Cold Shot.”
Music-goers can catch funKtus at Lemon Jam on Sunday, January 28.
Lemon Jam is a free, all ages monthly music event held in Henderson Park at Lemon Tree Passage.
It begins at noon and winds up at 4pm, and features music, children’s activities and raffles.
