Richardson Road has reopened to traffic between Medowie Road and Nelson Bay Road.
The semi-trailer, which rolled on the Paaul’s Corner roundabout at Salt Ash about 5.30am on Thursday, has been removed. Scrap metal, which was being transported by the truck at the time of the rollover, has been cleaned up.
Traffic conditions are back to normal.
Richardson Richardson is closed in both directions between Medowie and Nelson Bay roads following a truck crash at Paul’s Corner early on Thursday morning.
A clean-up operation is underway at the scene in Salt Ash.
A single semi-trailer carrying a load of scrap metal overturned on the Salt Ash roundabout, closest to the median strip on Richardson Road, about 5.30am.
The truck came to rest on the passenger’s side.
Emergency services including police and NSW Fire and Rescue crews were called to the scene.
Four NSWFR trucks attended including two HAZMAT (hazardous materials) crews from Newcastle, a fire crew from Raymond Terrace and another from Mayfield East.
The HAZMAT crews attended to help clean up diesel which had spilled onto the road.
About 50 litres of diesel had spilled onto Richardson and Nelson Bay roads.
Scrap metal which was being transported in the truck at the time of the rollover also spilled on to the road.
By the time emergency services had arrived the driver of the truck, a male, was out of the vehicle.

Heavy machinery including excavator and heavy tow truck arrived at the scene about 9.25am to help clean up the scrap metal on the road and roll the truck back onto its wheels.
Fire crews remained on the scene until the truck was rolled over, which happened about noon.
The northbound lanes of Nelson Bay Road are expected to be closed to traffic throughout the afternoon as the truck is removed from the site.
Traffic is reportedly queued back 4kms in each direction of the roundabout. Motorists are experiencing significant delays.
Authorities are advising drivers to allow extra time if they have to travel near the scene. Traffic is being diverted to Medowie Road in Williamtown.
Traffic is moving slowly through Paul’s Corner after a truck overturned at the roundabout in Salt Ash early on Thursday morning.
Emergency services were called to the roundabout that intersects Nelson Bay Road and Richardson Road about 5.30am.
Police and emergency services were still at the scene about 9.30am.
According to Live Traffic NSW, traffic has been affected in all directions of the roundabout.
Authorities advise motorists reduce speed and exercise caution near the crash site.
