Emergency warning for bushfire at Tomago and Williamtown

An emergency warning has been issued for a fire burning out of control at Tomago and Williamtown. 

The fire is burning in the vicinity of Masonite Road, Tomago and is heading easterly towards Newcastle airport. 

Residents in Barry Close, Cabbage Tree Road and Masonite Road are being urged to shelter in place as the fire front approaches. 

They are being warned it is too late to leave the area. 

Firefighters are working in the area, with further crews and aircraft being sent to assist the ground crews. 

Under these conditions, fires can be difficult to control. Embers may be blown ahead of the fire, creating spot fires. These spot fires may threaten your home earlier than the predicted main fire front.
