Savannah Green, 4, said she was excited for her first day of kindergarten.
Mum on the other hand was a little nervous.
“Nervous and excited,” Bec Pollard said. “My little girl is finally starting kindergarten. It’s a lot different to pre-school.”
Savannah started at Irrawang Public School on Tuesday.
While many of her preschool friends are attending Raymond Terrace Public School this year, Savannah did not begin her new adventure alone on Tuesday.
She walked through Irrawang’s school gates with one of her closest friends – big brother Kobey Pollard, 6.
Kobey, who is in Year 1 this year, assumed the protective big brother role immediately. He said he wouldn’t let anyone hurt his little sister.
Ms Pollard’s two children attend the same primary school she did, which she said eases some of the nerves.
“I know most of the teachers. Some of them were here when I was,” Ms Pollard said. “That does help. It eases your mind a bit.”
Savannah and Kobey’s dad, Dan Green, joined Ms Pollard at the school on Tuesday morning to see the pair off.
Mr Green said he was proud of his brave “little princess”.
