Nelson Bay’s A-grade cricket team went into their game with the Cricketers Arms down on troops on the long weekend. The Makos went down by four wickets and dropped to fourth spot on the ladder.

Opener Christian Hernandez made a sparkling 52 runs as wickets tumbled around him. Myles Eckersley chipped in with 15 runs.
Ray Anderson lead the bowlers with 2-20. Simon Plummer captured 2-20. The good news was that the B2s claimed top spot on the ladder with a win over United Sports Slashers.
Opener Sean Fitzpatrick lead the way with 32 runs including six fours. Matt James had a classy 39 runs. Ross Turnball 28 made up the total 8/154. Bowlers Alex Ward and Ryan Reedman did the damage with 3-52 and 334 respectively.
Nelson Bay Golf Club’s A-grade pennant team start their 2018 campaign this Sunday against Hawks Nest at Charleston Golf Club.
The team played a trial game at Nelson Bay last Sunday under the watchful eye of captain Peter Gibson and manager Will Semmens.
The Bay’s two top players will will be teenager Harry Cleare and Connor Benjamin. Also in the team is Mike Harris, James Marshall, Semmens, Gibson, Craig Mackenzie, Rick O’Shannessy and Bruce Bews
Nelson Bay Junior Rugby Club are set for another busy year. Coaches will be advised next week. The club is confident of registering over 200 players to cater for 10 teams from under-8 through to under-17.
The club will hold a meet the coaches and registration night at the Tomaree ground on February 5 and 12 at 6pm.
