The Mambo-Wanda Wetlands Conservation Group rallied on the eve of World Wetlands Day today as part of its campaign to have six hectares bought at auction for $250,000 put back into public hands.
Port Stephens Council last year began a push for the state government to negotiate with the site’s owner to buy it back.
Port Stephens MP Kate Washington vowed to fight until the vital fragment of koala habitat returned to public hands. “I want to thank everyone in the community who has signed the petition, collected signatures, attended rallies and wrote submissions,” she said.
