My research has focused on the history of the lighthouse on Fingal Island, local shipwrecks, the old fishermen who worked around Fingal and a history of the hamlet we know as Fingal Bay.
One of the most fascinating events was the creation of the Fingal Spit in 1891 when a huge sea from the south, the Maitland Gale, crashed through the permanent finger of land that connected Point Stephens to the mainland.
The trees, boulders and sandy track were washed into the sea leaving the sand spit we see today.
The book, The OUTERLIGHT, is nearing time to print, so I am looking for any relevant material or stories that you may wish to share. Please email me: stinkerfishing@yahoo.com.
