The mayor of Port Stephens Ryan Palmer named 18 students on Thursday night who receive $2000 each to assist with course costs.
"It’s fantastic to see the students of Port Stephens so committed not only their own professional development, but also wanting to give back to their community through their professional choices," he said.
"From student paramedics, doctors and chemical engineers to wildlife conservation and environmental studies, the talent and determination of our students here in Port Stephens is something to be very proud of.”
Fifteen businesses contributed to this year’s $36,000 scholarship pool – the largest amount council said it had ever received – granted to residents from the Port Stephens local government area who are starting university or TAFE in 2018.
