MOTORISTS are having a slow morning at Ashtonfield and Hexham after two accidents created heavy traffic conditions in the artery between Maitland and Newcastle.

A crash on the New England Highway just past Ferraby Drive has hindered southbound traffic, while a crash on Maitland Road at Hexham just past the bridge has closed one of the two Newcastle-bound lanes there.
Drivers are warned to expect significant delays at both sites.
Motorists headed through Hexham will be hopeful the conditions do not approach those caused by a crane rollover on the bridge last week that had a ripple effect throughout areas including Stockton and Mayfield.
Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time through the crash areas.
