Up to 400 Rotarians will descend on Nelson Bay for three days this week for the annual Rotary District 9670 conference.

Rotary District 9670 stretches from Morisset to Tea Gardens on the coast, to Scone in the North of the Hunter Valley, to Rylstone in the south and west including Dubbo and as far as Cobar and Bourke.
Each district gathers its members annually for a conference, which is an opportunity to exchange ideas, discuss projects, listen to inspirational speakers, renew acquaintances and to plan for the future.
The conference will be held at Wests Nelson Bay Diggers between March 16 and 18.
Rotarians will hear from:
- Dr Gillian Hicks AM MBE who, having survived horrific injuries in the London Bombings of 2005, is now an ambassador for peace around the world.
- Associate Professor Kelvin Kong from Port Stephens, an Ear, Nose and Throat Specialist in Newcastle who has worked in urban, rural and remote communities.
- Jenny Devlin is a former Rotary World Peace Fellow, having completed a Masters in Peace Studies in Tokyo as well as training in Switzerland and the USA.
Rotary District Governor Helen Ryan from Salamander Bay said she hoped attendees will leave the conference with a renewed sense of purpose in continuing community service in the district and around the world.
“Rotary’s theme this year is Making a Difference. It doesn’t take much looking in a town that has a Rotary club to see the difference Rotary makes,” Ms Ryan said.
“So if you see a Rotarian wandering around the Nelson Bay this weekend, go and say hi. They’re working to make the world a better place.”
