There’s 12 categories worth $2500 in prizes and a ‘lucky door’ prize of $4500 available just for entering.
“This isn’t a super competitive event,” Junction Inn Fishing Club treasurer Terry Hughes said.
“It’s a social-based comp that’s meant to be fun.”

In the spirit of the event one of those prizes is a mystery weight category. For the more confident anglers there’s also the heaviest bag category but not as it has previously been run.
“We’re excluding mulloway this year,” Mr Hughes said. “When they weight 20kg that’s a big fish in a bag where the other fish might max out at 5kg.”
A favourite on many calendars the event is now in it’s 13th year.
“We’ve probably raised $30,000 for different charities over the years,” Junction Inn Fishing Club treasurer Terry Hughes said.ster
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter and Marine Rescue have been past recipients. A portion of the take is also directed toward freshwater dam stocking.
“We’ve always given money to fish stocking,” Mr Hughes said.
“It usually helps buy about 3000 fingerlings.”
But don’t think this is purely a freshwater event.
“It covers all of the Wiliams and Hunter, that’s right into Newcastle Harbour to the end of the breakwall,” Mr Hughes said.
Entry forms are available from the Junction Inn, Terrace Meats,Tackleworld Mayfield and BCF Heatherbrae.
