Port Stephens Community Art Centre is the biggest art gallery in Port Stephens, charged with the task of promoting arts and crafts in the area and it certainly is doing just that.
The Port Stephens Community Art Centre is made up of two areas - the annex and main gallery.
The gallery is a bright and colourful space with an incredible range of artwork and special craft pieces reflecting the great skills of the region’s artisans.
A weekend garden cafe sells light lunches, teas and coffees but guests are encouraged to visit any day of the week and a quick cuppa can easily be organised.
The cafe is open from 10am to 2.30pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
“We have groups doing embroidery, painting, water colours, acrylic, oils, patchworkers, textile artists, bonsai, woodwork, mosaics - it’s a hive of creative activity with a multitude of arts and crafts group.”
The Port Stephens Community Art Centre boasts over 400 members drawn from the local community.
An unframed art works ‘Dreams and Journeys’ exhibition (pictured) is on until April 10.
All of the artworks are unique originals created by members of the Port Stephens Community Arts Centre and can be viewed or purchased by visiting the centre.
Also running from April 12 to May 22 is the “Nelson Bay Quilters Exhibition”.
A creative use of fabric and colour combined, have produced a stunning exhibition that will stimulate and excite the senses.
The centre is located at Cultural Place, Nelson Bay and is open 7 days a week from 10am to 4pm with parking and admission to the gallery free.
The gallery also has wheelchair access.
