Those who have chosen to spend the school holidays in Port Stephens have made a very wise decision.
Welcome and enjoy your break.
Inside the Port, thumping great kingfish are patrolling along the Nelson Bay breakwall and are keen to attack live baits, fresh squid or floating pilchards.
Catch your own squid around the moorings off Shoal Bay.
Just drift, cast and slowly retrieve your jig.
Squid are great bait and perform well in the kitchen.
While at Shoal Bay, target early morning flathead along the shoreline in under one metre of water.
Plastics and pilchards are doing the damage.
Quality whiting are swimming with the flathead.
Off the beaches, cracker whiting are in excellent numbers biting fiercely on worms that can be caught underfoot on Stockton, Fingal and Box beaches.
Tailor, salmon, mulloway and broad shouldered bream are busy on all the beaches.
Just cast out and hang on!
Fingal Bay champion Rob Henderson and members of the local fishing club have been targeting blue swimmer crabs west of Soldiers Point.
Best chances include Tilligerry Creek, Bull Island, Carrington and North Arm Cove.
Big muddies behind the oyster racks.
