Tyres, brakes, suspension and mechanical service are things every motorist should monitor because when it comes to repairs, prevention is better than cure, and when it comes to school holiday getaways, there’s nothing worse than breaking down in the middle of nowhere.
“People should check the last time their vehicle was serviced, calculate or estimate how big the trip will be to see if they should service the vehicle earlier than scheduled for peace of mind before starting a long trip,” Stephen said.
“This also gives their mechanic the ability to complete a safety check including brakes and brake fluid, coolant, wiper blades and fluid, steering and suspension, windscreen, under-body damage and all lights are operational before you depart.
“When it comes to tyres, make sure you pop in for a safety check, air pressure check and even a rotate, balance and wheel alignment before starting your trip.
“The worst scenario is being stuck in unfamiliar territory with a boot load of holiday supplies and needing to reach for a spare tyre that hasn't been checked in years and is dead flat, rendering you stuck.
“The idea with holidays is to spend more time at your dream destination and less money on call out fees or even tow trucks, not the other way round.”
Tanilba Bay Tyres & Mechanical are a independent business, family owned and operated for almost eight years on the Peninsula – employing local people and supporting local business.
“We are the fourth owners of Tanilba Bay Tyre Service, which originally started in the premises behind the old Bi Lo supermarket and has been serving the Tilligerry Peninsula for over 35 years,” Stephen said.
“After Bi Lo’s closure the business moved to Industrial Crescent, Lemon Tree Passage. We took over from Mr Kelvin Blacktop in August 2010. In February 2017 we took over Geoff’s Auto Repairs when Geoff and Judy Camm retired, moving into their premises, merging the two businesses and changing the name.”
