Information on the rebates will be available at a free energy efficiency workshop at Raymond Terrace on Friday.
People with a Pensioner Concession Card, Health Care Card, Low Income Health Care Card from Centrelink, or Veterans' Affairs Gold Card can save up to half on the purchase price of these big ticket appliances.
“This free workshop is a fantastic opportunity for people to learn about easy ways to save energy around the home and lower their bills,” the council’s acting community development and engagement coordinator Elizabeth Akerman said.
“It’s also a chance to find out more about the NSW Government’s Appliance Replacement Offer, which makes it easier for eligible people to upgrade their old fridge or television to a new, more energy-efficient model.
“Concession card holders who own a fridge or TV that is at least six years old may be eligible for up to 40-50% off a new energy efficient appliance.”
Replacing an old, inefficient fridge has been shown to save households between $100 and $200 a year on energy bills.
Likewise, moving from a plasma or cathode ray tube (CRT) television to a more efficient LCD model can save between $50 and $125 a year.
“I’d encourage everyone to come along and find out some simple tips to save energy and money,” Ms Akerman said.
A Commonwealth Senior Health Card is not sufficient eligibility for this offer.
To access the rebate, applicants must own a plasma or cathode ray tube (CRT) television, or own a fridge at least six years old.
The workshop will run from 9am to 11am at Raymond Terrace Library. To register your interest call the library on 4988 0111.
