INXS fans would instantly recognise those words not only as a motto to live by, but also as the opening lyrics to the influential rock band’s hit New Sensation.
When rock legend and lead singer of INXS Michael Hutchence roared those lyrics into his microphone at Wembley Stadium in 1991, the crowd went wild.
It is this London performance in particular that Live Baby Live: The INXS Tribute pay attention to in their show, which is heading to Hexham and Nelson Bay in June.
The INXS tribute band is lead by Guy Collings.
Collings, the lead singer, assumes the identity of Hutchence. He belts out INXS songs with the same passion, and in the same fashion, as Hutchence.
Collings is supported on stage by Carlton Sparks on lead guitar and backing vocals and Chris McCaig behind the drums and on percussion.
Also on stage is Josh Bowen (saxophone, rhythm guitar, harmonica), Matt Porter (keyboards, rhythm guitar, backing vocals) and Justin Miranda (bass).
“With INXS their sound is unique, from Michael’s voice, and there’s just an X-factor to them, it only takes a couple of bars on the radio and you know it’s them,” Collings said.
“When we’re on stage, there’s so much going on, with the different instrumentation to the sequencers, it’s not your typical rock show.”
Live Baby Live: The INXS Tribute replicate all the classic INXS tracks, performing songs from the band’s first album all the way through to their latest hits.
Their repertoire includes hits like Don’t Change, Devil Inside, and of course New Sensation (Live Baby Live), to name but a few.
The tribute act places an emphasis on duplicating the INXS vibe and mojo that captivated and defined a generation.
Live Baby Live: The INXS Tribute will be at Hexham Bowling Club on Friday, June 15 then Wests Nelson Bay Diggers on Saturday, June 16.
The Take Me Back: Noiseworks Tribute Show will support both shows. Tickets to both shows cost $25, available from the respective club, and start at 8.30pm.
