It is billed as the largest event on the peninsula’s calendar but the Tilligerry Motorama does more than showcase hundreds of cars together and raise money for charity, it also brings joy to people’s faces.

“All day you see smiles on people’s faces,” Tilligerry Auto Club member Jeff Dawson said. “We all look forward to the Tilligerry Motorama.”
The auto club, founders and organisers of the annual motorama, expect 500 classic, vintage and custom cars and bikes will line the grounds of Tilligerry RSL on Sunday, May 20 for the 2018 edition.
The only reason vehicle attendance was down to 385 last year was because of the poor weather leading up to the event. However, the sun came out and so did the people seeing 6000 walk through the gates in 2017.
The cost to enter the motorama is a gold coin. This year, money collected at the gate will be donated to junior sporting clubs on the Tilligerry Peninsula.
“There’s always been a charity aspect to the motorama but this year we decided that some of the funds raised should go back into the peninsula,” the auto club’s Geoff Nutt said.
Money raised through the motorama’s three big raffles is donated to the Paediatric Oncology Unit at John Hunter Children's Hospital.
This year, the motorama is offering a raffle prize of a one-hour experience in Williamtown RAAF Base’s Wedgetail flight simulator.
Just 250 tickets, costing $10 each, will be sold for this raffle, which was made possible thanks to the RAAF, Boeing and Thales.
The second raffle, made possible thanks to Club Lemon Tree, includes BP fuel cards worth $750, $500 and $250 and the third raffle includes a wide variety of goods and services donated by Port Stephens businesses.
Since it first began in 2006, the Tilligerry Motorama has raised more than $112,000 for charity. But the peninsula also benefits, Mr Nutt said.
“It’s a great social event, but money is spent in the restaurants and hotels in the area,” he said. “The peninsula really does benefit from the motorama.”
Gates open at 7am for exhibitors. The cost to exhibit is $10.
The judging presentation, including the awarding of the Don Barrett Trophy for best on show, is done at 1pm. Raffles are drawn at 1.15pm.
For the general public, gates open at 9am with the event winding up at 3pm.
