In their first entry into the state titles, held in Kiama on May 5 and 6, Port Stephens District Bodyboard Club members Daniel Wilson and Hayden Pisani placed first and second in the under-16 cadet division to earn a spot in the national titles.
Kaylah Pisani, the club’s only girl, placed third in the women’s division while Jordan Wilson, in under-18 junior, came in eighth. Jack Grainger, also in under-16 cadet, missed out on a placing.
The club’s secretary, Jules Collins, said this was an “awesome” result for the young bodyboarders.
“It’s pretty big for our club,” she said. “It was really awesome to be there with them and see how stoked they all were with how well they did.”
For the Pisanis, who are siblings, their state performance came after only joining the club this year.
Collins said the pair had come a “long way in such a short time frame”. Likewise for the Wilson brothers who are in their second season with the bodyboarding club.
“It was all their first time at state,” Collins said. “It was a great effort from them in their first time.”
The national titles will be held in Tweed Heads in August. The Port club has two competitions left in the season.
