The certificates commemorate those individuals and organisations who have been recognised in the NSW Parliament for their efforts.
Ms Berejiklian said these efforts were beyond what governments could achieve.
“Yes, state and local governments can work together to achieve a lot together. But volunteers always step up and do things that governments can’t see or can’t do and we are very, very grateful for that,” she said.
“Volunteers are worth their weight in gold and more but also the wonderful examples they leave for future generations.”
The certificates in order of presentation were:
Glen Ramplin for 20 years’ service and bravery with the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service; Port Stephens Community Drug Action Team; Tomaree Breast Cancer Support Group; Rotary district chair Helen Ryan; Alesco Senior College; Annual Hunter Breast Care Fundraiser; Marine Rescue Port Stephens; Alan Earle of the Seaham Knitting Circle ANZAC Memorial event; Dianne Ball founder of the Wahroonga Corporation; Charlie Elias representing Tomaree Youth Community Action; Kearsley Community Dawn Service Committee; Community Transport Port Stephens; and Port Stephens Graffiti Action Team.
“For me it is a joy to visit the regions across our great state especially here in Port Stephens. I want to assure you that I am a Premier that cares deeply about all communities regadless of what the postcode is,” Ms Berejiklian said.
“I’m someone who looks at what we can do to make these communities better, it’s not always the dollars we put in.”
Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter and Central Coast Scot MacDonald thanked the attendees for all the work they did in and around the Hunter, and the Premier for attending to recognise their efforts personally.
“These individuals and groups have given countless hours to the Port Stephens and Hunter community across a range of services, and I commend them for their advocacy and involvement,” Mr MacDonald said.
“I thank the Premier for supporting the Port Stephens community and acknowledging these outstanding people.”
The presentations capped a whirlwind week of announcements in Port Stephens:
