What a great idea. Irrawang High School has a fishing club where teacher Michael Groth encourages students to bring in pictures of their catches.

The club is a great way to form positive relationships that promote a cooperative, learning environment in and out of school.
There are three categories: During Term, School Holidays and Whole Year. There is a meeting at school before each competition where a coloured symbol is given to all competitors.
This symbol must be included in each photo as evidence that the fish was caught during the competition time.
I once organised a fishing competition between Nelson Bay High School and a visiting school from Gilgandra. The rules were simple. On capture, the fish was placed on the Coop platform where a chalk line, marking the length of the fish, was drawn.
One line for each school. The school with the longest line at the end of allotted time was the winner.
Gilgandra was ahead with minutes remaining when a Nelson Bay team member caught an eel. The Bay won by a whisker.
