Series promoter Kevin Williams announced on Wednesday that rounds seven and eight of the 10-part national series would move from Maitland to Ranch MX in Eagleton, near Raymond Terrace, on July 14 and 15.
“I am excited to be taking the series to the completely new and totally revamped Ranch MX venue,” he said.
“Alongside Boyd Events, and with the support from the Port Stephens Council, we have managed to change our venue and relocate to this amazing new one.
“I went to the new Ranch MX venue... only a few short weeks ago. I excited to see the impressive transformation they have done.
“Many riders who have been to the venue in the past will not recognise it and I am confident it will be a rider and crowd-pleaser alike.”
Williams said the plan had been to run a super stadium cross at Maitland but, due to “unforeseen issues” with the venue, they are now unable to.
The MX Nationals is Australia’s premier dirt bike championship.
It attracts talented Australian motorcyclists and international riders throughout the season. The nationals also plays host to regional riders who enter individual rounds throughout the year when the series travels to their hometowns.
The MX Nationals was last held at Ranch MX, then called MX Central Ride Park, in 2015.
The Examiner reported in 2015 that hundreds of people turned out to watch the round of the nationals.
The national championship was held in Eagleton for one day in July in 2015, and was estimated to have injected $500,000 into the Port's economy with riders, supporters, travelling fans and race crew staying in the area for the whole weekend.
Port Stephens Council’s economic development and tourism coordination, Janelle Gardner, believed hosting the MX Nationals would once again have a positive impact on the economy.
“Council is really excited to have the opportunity to bring this event to [Port Stephens], which will see over 450 competitors and officials along with an estimated daily crowd of 3000 people visit,” she said.
“It’s not only great for our local motocross enthusiasts, but it will also have a really positive economic impact across the entire local community.”
