A police strike force has been setup to investigate the death of a Port Stephens woman.

On June 13, a 51-year-old woman from Lemon Tree Passage suffered a number of injuries, including a severe head injury.
She was not taken to the John Hunter Hospital for treatment until the Friday, June 15. Her condition has since deteriorated and she did not recover from the injuries.
On Monday June 18 the decision was made to take her off life support, she died the same day.
Police have announced the establishment of Strike Force Gogol to investigate the circumstances around her death. Detectives are investigating the events leading up to her death, including an incident in her home on Wednesday which was reported to police.
Officers from Port Stephens-Hunter Police District are preparing a report for the information of the Coroner. A post mortem examination will be conducted this week to determine the cause of death.
