Fady Fahmy and his wife Basma have always been driven to help people, with the pharmaceutical pair and owners of the new Lemon Tree Passage Pharmacy dedicating the last 16 years to improving the wellbeing of their local community members.
Graduating in 2002 from the same class, the pair have been practicing pharmacy in different roles since – and are the perfect team.
Fady takes care of the business management and accredited pharmacist Basma concentrates on the academic side, conducting home visits and medication reviews.
Getting to know their customers
Together they are passionate advocates for good health, believing the benefits flow through to all aspects of life.
And the first step they took towards a happy health cycle for their customers was to build relationships with members of the community.
“We have a policy that wherever we work, we live locally,” Fady said, believing that it is beneficial in building the essential relationships needed for the pair to truly assist their customers.
Foundation of care and value
Fady and Basma’s Lemon Tree Passage Pharmacy is an independent business, built upon a foundation of traditional pharmaceutical principles, ethical operations and ensuring customers receive value for money.
“Our slogan is ‘where care and value meet’,” Fady said.
“We are very traditional pharmacists, that’s why we are an independent business. We preserve the traditional values and services: the counselling style, the compounding medicine style and the one-to-one style of pharmacy.
“Being a traditional pharmacist means we spend more time by the door than behind the counter – so we get to know our customers and build relationships with them. We are out on the floor, greeting people and getting to know them.
“This is the traditional way of being a pharmacist, people can come here to receive the service they expect and, on top of that, you’ll be surprised, because it’s the same price.”

The extra mile
Since taking over the then Kumar’s Pharmacy in November 2017, Fady and Basma have made some changes at the newly named Lemon Tree Passage Pharmacy, to ensure they are “going the extra mile for customers”.
“For example, one of our policies is that our deliveries [medication reviews] are done by the pharmacist herself,” Fady said. “Medication is not like a pizza or takeaway food, so we have to be responsible.”
These personal deliveries allow the pharmacist to check on patients.
“How they are going? Do they know what the medicines are for? We explain how and when to take medication, and discuss whether the medicine will affect others,” he said.
Holistic health
The team at Lemon Tree Passage Pharmacy always have patients’ overall wellbeing at the top of their minds. And that is why they introduced the compounding medicine service and can also provide advice on complementary medicines.
“You have to listen to your body,” Fady said. “So, we are also into the vitamins and natural pathways, because the more we are looking after our bodies the less we may have to rely on medications, which do the job, but come at a cost.”
Additionally, people can still receive flu shots to help them get through the winter.
A One-stop Shop
The newly renovated pharmacy has expanded the range of products offered to customers. In fact, since taking over, Fady and Basma have doubled the store’s stock.
“We are trying to build a one-stop shop for our customers,” Fady said. “Offering a large range of giftware and a signature range of perfumes.
“But one of the most important things for our elderly population is mobility aids. We are stocking a very big range of mobility products. From wheelchairs to shower chairs, toilet aids, walking frames and sticks.”
Grand Opening
The team at Lemon Tree Passage Pharmacy will celebrate the pharmacy’s grand opening on June 29 and there will be gifts, giveaways and, of course, cake.
Across July customers who spend more than $50 in store will also have the chance to win some great prizes including a television, health packs and beauty bags.
