Isaiah Huthnance and Jasper Kilkelly, both 19, headed to the Tops on the weekend as soon as they heard snow was imminent.
The pair of keen landscape photographers had plans to spend their time capturing the natural beauty of the national park.
“We setup camp at Polblue and the next morning left at 5.30am to take photos,” Mr Huthnance from Lochinvar said.
“We returned between 9-10am to make breakfast, but we couldn’t find our camp site.”
The teenagers had taken their vehicle with them to scope out the most picturesque locations, leaving their swag setup, cooking equipment, food, water, clothes and camp gear.
Thinking the site had been snowed under, they spent some time looking, before they discovered the remnants of their belongings.
“The swag was gone, thermal sleeping bags, water supply taken, clothes, almost everything was gone,” he said.
“We couldn’t believe it.
“For all they knew that camp site belonged to hikers and they have taken our shelter and water supply.
“I hope they understand how dangerous that can be.”
The stolen goods had an estimated worth of $2,000 and the theft meant the pair had to pack up and head home.
“We are two young guys that work hard for their money,” Mr Huthnance said.
“I want to warn others because I am guessing the people who did this might try again.”
The theft has been reported to police and anyone with information about the incident should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
An Office of Environment and Heritage spokesman, which runs National Parks and Wildlife, said incidents such as the one alleged are very rare however, people are reminded to secure their property at all times.
More snow fell at Barrington Tops on Tuesday.
Between five to 15 centimetres of snow fell across the Tops from Saturday through to Monday. The heavy dusting spread from the Dingo Gate through to Honeysuckle and also around to Tomalla.
