A man in his 30s has been transported to John Hunter Hospital after a two vehicle crash on Maitland Road near Sparke Street on Friday morning.

NSW Ambulance were called to Maitland Road near Sandgate Road at around 7.50am, where they found a patient had suffered suspected head or neck injuries, but was reported to be conscious and breathing.
Newcastle police were still on the scene at around 8.40am.
Northbound lanes have since reopened on Maitland Road, after one lane was closed as a result of the crash. LiveTraffic reports heavy congestion in the area and has advised commuters to exercise caution.
Traffic was returning to normal around 9.10am.
The fog hanging around Newcastle in the early morning on Friday is expected to clear to a sunny afternoon, with maximum temperatures between 15 and 18 degrees.
