Ashleigh Shearman and Hunter Rep Squad member Cheyenne Neu kicked Power’s goals at Tulkaba Park on Saturday, but the Medowie-based team were overcome by the Dockers 19.7 (121) to 2.2 (14).
Power had some good patches in a game where their tackling rocked the Lake Macquarie players on several occasions.
Best players for the Power were ruck Rosemary Potter, first-gamer Megan MacAuslan, Amana Lewis, Danielle McLeod and Emma Fleming.
In the GE Women’s fixture between Nelson Bay and Wallsend-West Newcastle at Dick Burwell Oval on Saturday, the Marlins used the game to warm up for their huge clash with the Newcastle Nova’s this week by accounting for the bottom placed Swans by 104 points.
Final scores were Nelson Bay 14.26 (110) to Wallsend-West Newcastle 1.0 (6).
In the absence of key forward Jesse Jakubowski (out with an ACL injury), the Marlins only blemish was kicking 14 goals from 40 effective shots.
Jemma Astley kicked four goals for the Marlins, with Kaitlyn Douglass provided excellent support to Astley with three majors.
Nelson Bay’s best players were Emily Wright, Lauren Hughes, centre Sophie Balcombe, Kate Holland and Douglass.
In the Black Diamond Cup fixture played at Dick Burwell Oval on Saturday, Nelson Bay were no match for league leaders Cardiff, with the Hawks running out winners 22.14 (146) to 2.6 (18).
The Marlins struggled up forward all day, managing a solitary goal in each of the first two quarters then being kept scoreless in a disappointing second half.
Mark Spencer and Alec Clark kicked the Bay’s only goals.
The Marlins were best served by Jarryd Rymer, Ryan Reedman, Joel Erickson, ruckman Billy Barton and Clark.
With coach Sean McGrath unable to field his best 22 players each week, injuries, illness and unavailability, the Marlins have struggled this season and with a streak of losses, now have almost no chance of making the finals.
