Money raised at Boyd Oval on Saturday, July 28 will be donated to Food Way, a food support program run by the Medowie Assembly of God Church.
“We started the charity round about five years ago,” club president Dwyane Murphy said. “We donated to breast cancer for a couple of years but thought the money was being raised by the Medowie community, why not keep it in Medowie?”
Last year the charity round funds were used to help one its own. About $4000 was donated to Marauders player Eric Tolhurst to buy a special bed for his young daughter Elise who has a development disorder called Smith-Magenis syndrome.
After discovering the Food Way program, which provides more than 1200 Port families with fresh food and hot meals, Murphy said the club wanted to support it.
The Maruaders, in division three, will play the first game of the day at 12.30pm. Nelson Bay Gropers in division two play at 1.45pm and premiers at 3pm.
In addition to rugby, there will be a range of off-road racing cars on display at Boyd Oval. The Marauders will have Glen Towers Racing cars on display.
There will also be a jumping castle for children and barbecue. Special jumpers will be made and available for sale on the day.
