The winning recipient will be announced as part of Grandparents Day on Sunday, October 28.
Port Stephens MP Kate Washington said that the 2018 Grandparent of the Year awards was an important opportunity to recognise the ‘incredible contribution’ of local grandparents.
“Nominations can include older people who volunteer to support local children, even if they aren’t their grandchildren. Many amazing volunteers become the grandparent figure for local kids,” Ms Washington said.
Residents have until Friday, August 17 to nominate a local grandparent who supports young people through voluntary work or other special contribution. Nominations can be made to Kate Washington’s office by emailing portstephens@parliament.nsw.gov.au or calling 4987 4455.
Extra special grandparents can also be nominated for the statewide NSW Grandparent of the year award.
Nominations for the statewide award can be made here: https://www.grandparentsday.nsw.gov.au/awards.
Grandchildren can get in on the action by taking part in the 2018 Grandparents Day Photography Competition. For more information about the competition visit:
