The Minister, David Elliott, visited the Seaham Knitting Circle Memorial and the Raymond Terrace war memorial on July 10.
During his visit, Mr Elliott presented the sub-branch with a $3000 Community War Memorials Fund grant, which will be used to carry out repair works and a condition assessment and the Knitting Circle.
“The NSW Government is investing in local war memorials to safeguard the legacy of servicemen and women beyond the Centenary of Anzac,” Mr Elliott said.
This assessment will determine the extent of conservation works that need to be done at the memorial.
It comes after Raymond Terrace RSL Sub-Branch member Alan Earl, who has run the Seaham Anzac Day service at the Knitting Circle for 15 years, was awarded a certificate of commendation in June.
Mr Elliott also inspected conservation works at the Raymond Terrace memorial, completed last year with a $3300 grant from the same fund. Further works will be carried out at the Anzac Park memorial in August.
Mr Elliott presented a ministerial commendation to RSL sub-branch president Captain Vic Jones RANR.
“It was nice to receive the recognition for the work the RSL does in the area,” Captain Jones said.
